Chicken Wiki

Delawares are a breed of chicken originating from the U.S. state of Delaware. They are listed as a threatened breed.

The Delaware's feathers are white with black markings often around the neck, wing tips, and tail. They are a heavy breed and lay extra-large, brown eggs.

Conservation Status[]

During the 1940s, the breed was common, as they were quite popular for meat production, but by the early 1950s was replaced by other breeds. The breed's status was listed as 'critical' by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy in 2008, but moved up to 'threatened' in 2008, due to conservation efforts.
